I'm away this week with my family, so here's a time appropriate re-run from a few weeks ago.
This week we finally feature the record from which the No Magic title music was borrowed: Doves sophomore The Last Broadcast. Doves are a special band to me, partly because their records were great at a very musically formative time for me, and also because studying in Manchester I was treated to the extra enthusiasm of their homecoming shows. I could happily feature any of their records, honestly, and if I'm lucky maybe I'll get to do No Magic for long enough to do that. But for now, the second album is the one of note: It showcases a band coming out of their shell, expanding their sound with confidence, adding some variety, tapping into the sound of their local Manunian roots a little more, and delivering some of the defining indie anthems of the early 00s.
We also play some sentiment songs about trains.
