   The Majazz Project label was founded by Atef’s nephew, Mo’min Swaitat, who has amassed an archive of rare tapes and vinyl from Palestine and beyond, spanning field recordings of weddings to revolutionary tracks and synth-heavy 80s funk. Many of these were acquired from an abandoned record label in Jenin in the north of the West Bank. The Majazz Project is a research project borne out of the archive, focused around sampling, remixing and reissuing vintage Palestinian cassettes.

   PHONODELICA is the experimental sound project from Palestinian-Egyptian-American composer, producer, and performer Donia Jarrar. Original audio samples on this record were collected by the artist and recorded in various parts of Palestine, most notably at the illegal apartheid wall and Qalandia Checkpoint that separates Ramallah from Jerusalem. Field recordings include sounds of the soldiers, the sound of the caged turnstile spinning and the echoes of the saxophone on the other side of the checkpoint. The choir was sampled from the artist's 2nd grade music class at the adjacent refugee camp.

    This album marked eleven years since the assassination of the Palestinian thinker, actor, director, activist and revolutionary, Juliano Mer-Khamis. Juliano was assassinated on April 4, 2011 just outside The Freedom Theatre, the space he founded in Jenin refugee camp for the local community.
