EP082: An Earth That Hates Us

Illusions occur because our brains constantly process an enormous amount of sensory information from our environment. To efficiently manage this flood of data, our brains rely on shortcuts and assumptions to interpret and make sense of the world around us. Illusions take advantage of these cognitive mechanisms, exploiting the brain's expectations and perceptual biases. They reveal that our perception is not a straightforward reflection of reality but rather a complex interplay between sensory input and the brain's interpretation of that input. Illusions highlight the brain's remarkable ability to construct our perception of reality, while also demonstrating its limitations, showing how easily our senses can be tricked and reminding us that what we perceive is not always a faithful representation of the external world.
