Went to Charleston last weekend for the Southern Food Alliance's event, Charleston Wine + Food. It was a smorgasbordT of who's who in the nations foodie scene. But it also is the location of a rich and dark history. Charleston was where ships docked and unloaded precious, precious cargo: slaves. Other popular destinations include the Mercado, where slaves were traded, but now, tchotchke's. Or perhaps you'd like to visit the slave museum.
As my amazing taxi driver's, Bertha and Yolanda (homegirls and co-workers) told us, make sure you ask the right questions to get the honest history of this town.
Old money = slave money. don't get it twisted.
That being said: rich music history! A vetted stop on the Chitlin' Circuit, North and South Carolina have some amazing musicians. Anyone heard of Nina Simone? Anthony Hamilton, maybe? Drique London??
