Last week we listened to the birth of soul in Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, James Brown, and the Drifters, among others. Through the catalogs of Motown and Stax-Volt, we heard soul grow up. Having already been to Detroit and Memphis, today let’s visit two more soulful pockets, first to the devastating Deep City soul sound of Miami, Florida, and then to the Capsoul label in Columbus, Ohio -- a would-be rival to Motown.
Today is Part 2 of The Story of Soul.
