You are the community in community radio- a magical thing that Sequoia of Roll Over Easy describes as “one part us, one part you, and a little bit of coffee.” In a time where the idea of creating for creativity’s sake feels like it’s slipping away, your support gives a voice to those who may not have it otherwise and empowers people to learn new skills, all while helping you discover awesome new music.

Each week during our end of year fundraising campaign we're sharing the story of one BFF.fm DJ and the impact community radio has had on their lives. This week, we'd like to tell you about Britt.

In 2014 Britt was depressed, broke, and hanging on to her San Francisco apartment for dear life. But, hanging out in the studio on Friday nights co-hosting hello, cheetle. made her feel alive.

When Britt got in a very bad bike accident, the only way she could think to help herself recover was to document the experience and air it on her show. “I wouldn't have had the confidence or skills to make that first radio piece without the support and encouragement from the BFF.fm community. I've never had a thing like that in my life before.”

That first radio piece inspired Britt to apply to the documentary studies in radio/podcasting graduate program called Salt at the Maine College of Art, and today she has a new career at a music production company. “My time at BFF.fm gave me credibility, experience in an industry that is hard to break into, and a defined creative voice.”

This is why we’ve made it our mission to create powerful community radio for San Francisco.

Join more than 850 of your friends and neighbors who also believe in the power of community radio to bring people together by making a donation to BFF.fm by December 31 so that people like Britt can discover something new in themselves, and with that knowledge be able to push the boundaries of what’s possible.
