Hi, Bestie! I want to share some news regarding BFF.fm:

On January 1, 2025, I will be stepping down from the station's day-to-day operations.

You might ask, “What does this have to do with me as a listener?” While we hope this news won’t change how you enjoy all that BFF.fm has to offer, you need to know what’s happening behind the scenes because this means some organizational changes ahead for the station. It’s also an opportunity for you to become even closer to our community.

We need your help to build an even stronger, more sustainable BFF.fm for the future!

I’ll keep it real: 2024 was a challenging year for us financially. Despite some exciting developments like LPFM and magical moments of deep connection through events like our Listening Parties, this year, BFF.fm has fallen short of our fundraising goals. And this is part of a trend that extends far beyond our station. Nationally, individual giving has increased but has been outpaced by inflation. Meanwhile, a lot of our annual expenses have crept up. On top of that, state and local budget cuts meant that our grant funding took a hit, and although we secured all of our usual awards, the amount given will decrease for 2025.

Looking ahead, the quickest way to get the station on a more solid footing was to remove my salary and related HR costs from the budget. This means that for now, BFF.fm will transition back to being an entirely volunteer-run organization.

While there are still some details to be worked out, please know there was never any doubt that we would keep the station going. Our most dedicated DJs and volunteers have already stepped up to refocus, reorganize, and re-engage.

This is a pivotal moment, and we need you!

Your continued support is crucial to give us the stable footing to take our next steps. I would love to see you step up however you can to make this transition successful, whether by volunteering, donating, or joining our board of directors. You’re welcome to reach out at amanda@bff.fm with any questions and to share your hopes or concerns.

While I will no longer be involved in the daily management of BFF.fm, after a much-needed break, I’ll return in a volunteer capacity as Executive Director to continue to guide our strategic direction moving forward. I’m looking forward to returning to a more focused role, and I can’t wait to help everyone navigate this next growth phase! Thank you for all you do to make BFF.fm the best community radio station I have ever known. It’s a bittersweet moment, but I’m excited for new opportunities to build even better frequencies forever.

Long live BFF.fm!
