One of my favorite local bands (though I consider them a supergroup!) is comprised of solo artists Sadie Alan, Marika Christine, and Maria Donjacour. With Thomas Fendert on bass, they deliver lush harmonies and seemingly effortless grooves. They're Secret Secret.

Or at least, they were. After a surprise cease-and-desist followed by "lots of brainstorming, sillyness and seriousness," they're back under a new but equally alliterative name: Dinner Date. And with their new moniker comes a debut single, Irrelevant. Check it out:

The song doesn't start so much as it wafts in, but this initial breeziness belies the wailing heartache to come. Says the band, "Irrelevant is a song about how it feels to be in a relationship where your needs aren’t being met or considered, yet you are constantly asked to support the other person." 😮‍💨

There's something fresh but wistfully familiar about the band's sound here, and once I learned that Irrelevant was recorded and produced by Melina Duterte of Jay Som it all made sense. If this is a taste of what's to come for my favorite San Francisco supergroup, this dinner date is my treat.
