Happy birthday, BFF.fm!
Last year we said, looking ahead, "we hope to see you out on the community more as we begin remote broadcasting from more shows and sponsoring more cool music-related events." And certainly THAT happened, as we soon popped up at BARF, Culture Collide, and continued our partnership with Noise Pop. But, there was so much we hadn't anticipated, like our weekly DJ night at Pops, the opportunity to expand with Studio B, the awards, and just the amazing camaraderie among our DJs, listeners, and partners.
Not even gonna speculate on what year 3 has in store...we just know it's gonna be awesome!
Thanks, as always, for being a part of BFF.fm! -Amanda & Forrest
Here are some more thoughts on turning two from some of our rad DJs:
"I have to say it's been a helluva ride and more fun and creative than one can imagine. I won't get too (dabbing my eye) emotional..." - Steve Foxx, The Midnight Prowl
"I didn't know what to expect two years ago when I filled out an online form to become a DJ at BFF.fm. I thought I'd have some laughs while playing nostalgic indie rock for friends and random listeners, and maybe get the scoop on a couple new bands along the way. Instead, I feel like my extended family has grown: I've made great friends, interacted with incredible bands and labels, and watched this thing we're all a part of grow and change and develop a personality that is greater than the sum of its parts - much like the toddler it is." - DJ Ben, Music Director, host of Cracked Machine
"They call traditional, transmitter-based broadcast radio 'terrestrial.' By my watch, that makes BFF 'extraterrestrial' radio. And since it is always nighttime in space, I couldn't feel more at home." - Christopher Wind, HORIZONS
"For the past 731 days, BFF.fm has been an outlet for creativity, community, and kickass jams. As we continue to embed ourselves in the world around around us, we strive for excellence in every way a local radio station can dream. It's been an absolute pleasure and honor getting to serve our community, so here's to another two years!" - Sequoia, Roll Over Easy
"I STILL remember when there was only one Aux cord." - Nora, I Rock I Roll Radio
"I love BFF.fm, it’s made my life noticeably better. If you listen to us regularly or gave to our Kickstarter earlier this summer — you’ve made my life better too. So, as we approach year two, I’m looking forward to wishing our community a Happy Birthday! Please join me at the Brick & Mortar on September 14th!" - Mai, Mai + Charlie
I founded BFF.fm in 2013 because I believe in the power of community radio to play an integral role in our local music scene, and that a great Internet station can bring the Bay Area sound to the world.
People look at me sideways when I explain that one day I just decided to start an online radio station. I knew I could figure it out, and today BFF.fm is a vibrant community of talented DJs and dedicated volunteers, working together to make our mission happen!
I’m proud of the impact BFF.fm has had on the community and the opportunities it has afforded our listeners and our DJs. In 4 years we’ve hosted hundreds of bands in studio, presented dozens of local music showcases, and booked local support for touring acts playing larger venues.
