Almost 10 years after their debut EP, San Francisco’s own Ominous Ruin return with a revamped lineup and a new album. Like the Bay Area itself, the brutal technical death metal band has been through drastic ups and downs; edging towards the brink of collapse, only to rise with a new classic in California death metal.

Their new album, “Requiem,” arrives on May 9th via Willowtip Records. As vicious and razor-sharp as ever, Ominous Ruin proves why they’re an essential part of the California metal scene. Haunted and melodic atmospheres add dark beauty to dazzling riffs and bludgeoning beats, underscoring how well “Requiem” is executed on every level.

This Sunday, vocalist Crystal Rose and guitarist Alex Bacey join me on The Sunday Screeches to talk about Ominous Ruin’s long history, their Bay Area roots, bands you should know, what’s next for the band, Giants baseball, and more! Tune in at 2 pm PT to hear our conversation, the newest single from “Requiem,” and the best of the Bay Area underground.
