EP076: Last Lap 'Round the Sun

In Hindu and Buddhist mythology, Yama is revered as the king of the dead and the lord of justice, responsible for overseeing the afterlife and dispensing karmic consequences for a person's deeds in their earthly existence. Often depicted as a fearsome deity, Yama resides in his kingdom called Naraka, a realm where souls are judged and undergo experiences based on their actions. Yama is portrayed as a just and impartial judge, weighing the virtues and vices of each soul to determine their fate. In some depictions, Yama is accompanied by two attendants, Chitragupta and Yamadutas, who assist in this process. While Yama embodies the inevitability of death and the accountability of one's actions, he also symbolizes the cyclical nature of life and death within Hindu and Buddhist cosmology.
